Feasibility Study of 920MHz Band Communication for Monitoring System of Underground Infrastructure

(in English) Recently, critical accidents such as cave-in and fire in underground infrastructure have occurred frequently.
To detect such accidents, remote monitoring system will be a promising way.
The remote monitoring system allows us to detect the accident promptly and to reduce the operating cost.
However, the way of collecting the sensor data from the infrastructure deployed at undergrand is crucial.
To achieve this, wireless communication using 920 MHz band has received a great attention.
Since the environment at underground will be diversity due to the complicated patterns such as concretes and metals, the effectiveness of 920 MHz band should be confirmed.
However, the experiment of various patterns is very high in cost.
In this paper, we conducted many simulations with diverse cases to evaluate a feasibility of the monitoring system employing 920 MHz band for underground infrastructure. Through simulation experiments, we understood that there was high correlation between an actual and simulation.
