This paper proposes a new design criterion of adaptively scaled belief (ASB) in probabilistic data association (PDA), especially for overloaded multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) detection in bands below 6 GHz. Iterative detection is roughly classified into two types: iterative detection and decoding (IDD) and self-iterative detection. In IDD, a prior belief is exchanged between a detector and a channel decoder. On the other hand, a self-iterative detection scheme such as PDA is carried out without the use of the channel decoder. In the iterative regime, uncorrelated Gaussian signal has to be approximately obtainable as the prior belief. In the self-iterative detection, the approximation is not tight, resulting in ill convergence behavior of PDA iterative detection, especially in overloaded MIMO channels. To mitigate harmful impacts induced by modeling errors of the prior belief, we propose a new criterion for adaptive belief scaling according to the instantaneous channel state. |
