Optical I/O for integrated Silicon-Photonics Chips -- Output-Stabilization of Grating Coupler/Butt-coupling of Spot-Size Converter --

(in English) We discuss individual technical issues of grating couplers (GCs) and spot size converters (SSCs), which are optical input/output (I/O) devices. GCs are major optical I/O devices for recent silicon-(Si)-photonics-based optical transmitter chips, while SSCs are expected to be introduced into future Si-photonics Tx chips. We found that the degree of small power consumption and stable optical output power of a Tx chip can be improved by considering the combined property of a GC and a light source. On the other hand, for SSCs, we enabled butt-coupling of single-mode fibers to facilitate Tx assembly.
