[Special Talk] Smart Maintenance Highway (SMH) project -- Ensuring more efficient Highway maintenance --

(in English) NEXCO East announced in July 2013 the concept of “Smart Maintenance Highway (SMH)”. For ensuring the long-term safety and security of road infrastructure, we are attempting to build an overall maintenance system integrated with the field engineers and technicians by the introduction of ICT (information and communication technology) and mechanization.
More than three years have passed since the initial announcement of the SMH concept, and we have been so far working on concretizing and reviewing the concept for introduction. But from now on, as our main goal is an application of the project achievement to the on-site maintenance and management work, the project progress stage should be changed to the new stage where field trials and verification is significantly important.
In this presentation, the background of the SMH project, progress up to the present, and future development as well as the problems from the viewpoint of information processing are delivered.
