(in English) In recent years, high-speed and large-capacity optical communication systems are desired because of the rapid growth of Internet traffic, and high-performance optical device is required to realize them. Topology opti-
mization is one of the inverse design tools which can automatically design high-performance optical devices without relying on the designer’s experience. However, in this approach, the characteristic analysis of optical device should be performed repeatedly and it will cause a large calculation cost. In this study, we apply the SVEA technique which is used in beam propagation method (BPM) to finite element method (FEM) in order to improve its computational efficiency, and demonstrate that the FEM with SVEA (SVEA-FEM) enable efficient characteristic analysis and topology optimization for high-performance optical devices.
