(in English) In this article, the author reviewed literature on interdisciplinary research between snow and acoustics.
Snow crystals (or snowflakes) are crystals of ice growing from water vapor in the clouds.
Therefore, shapes and physical properties of snow are regulated by the conditions around them, such as temperature, supersaturation, and heat supply. Snowpack with a layer structure consisting of different types of snow with different physical properties has acoustic characteristics as porous material, however its acoustic characteristics are varied according to its layer structure.
As an example, here, the author explained that a dense snow pack which has almost equal density to that of the avalanche debris has a high sound insulation performance.
