Attack-Tolerant Relative Time Synchronization Method for Delay Tolerant Networks

(in English) Time synchronization is one of important issues in wireless sensor networks. Even in delay tolerant networks (DTNs), an accurate time synchronization is necessary for energy saving. In an environment with low node density such as DTNs, a time synchronization processing does not refer to the global time but to the reference time estimated among nodes. In general, the value of the reference time is calculated by an average value between its own local clock and the receiving timestamp. However, it takes a long time to a time synchronization if at least one of nodes has a local clock different from that of other nodes by a delay attack. In this paper, we propose a relative time synchronization method to achieve a highly accurate time synchronization by the estimation of the offset between nodes without changing its own local clock. From simulation results, we show that our proposed method can perform the accuracy time synchronization without a malicious influence of a delay attack, unlike the existing method.
