Displaying Real Images on a Layered 3D Display Considering Light Ray Projection Models

(in English) A layered 3D display consists of a few light attenuating layers (e.g., LCD panels) stacked in front of a backlight. The layered 3D display provides a view-dependent appearance, which corresponds to the 3-D contents to be displayed, by controlling the transmittance patterns on the layers. The transmittance patterns are computed based on the model, orthographic or perspective model, which is used to describe the light rays output from display (referred to as the output light ray model). The output light ray model and the photographed scene affect the quality of the displayed 3-D space. Therefore, it is necessary to select the output light ray model of the display which is suitable for the photographed 3-D space in order to display the desired 3-D image. In this paper, we clarify the suitable output light ray model of the display for the photographed scene by comparing the displayed 3-D contents using the transmittance patterns computed based on each output light ray model.
