DOA Estimation for Coprime Arrays Without Knowledge of Source Number

(in English) Pal et al. use a coprime array to extend it to a larger virtual ULA, and after spatial smoothing technique is implemented to make the covariance matrix, an increased number of sources can be detected. Liu et al. use the nuclear norm minimization to interpolate the missing samples to make a larger virtual ULA, so they can increase the estimation accuracy but also distinguish more sources than Pal's method. However, all of the subspace-based DOA estimation algorithms require a prior knowledge of the number of sources. On the other hand, using a symmetric ULA, Qian's method and it's improved method have been proposed for a DOA estimation which does not need to know the number of sources prior. In this study, we combine those methods to propose a DOA estimation method for coprime arrays, which can detect more sources than the number of array elements without knowledge of number of sources. The numerical examples demonstrate validity of the proposed method.
