The testbed network Japan Gigabit Network (JGN) operated by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and the Science Information NETwork 5 (SINET 5) operated by the National Institute of Informatics (NII) enabled application experiments to be conducted using a wideband network of 100 Gbps that covers a wide area. In this paper, we introduce cloud-based video handling system for uncompressed 8K ultra-high definition (UHD) video with realtime processing and distribution to multiple locations. Also we introduce recent research work. During the Sapporo Snow Festival Verification Test Event, hosted by NICT in February 2017, we successfully distributed over 100 Gbps 8K UHD video streams. In addition, at June 2017 Interop Tokyo 2017, we successfully created two new technologies: 1) an “8K-Full 48 Gbps virtual 8K video server” that uses NICT’s testbed facility StarBED, 2) a prototype of “8K network function” that performs switching and multiple 8K format conversion over a network. |
