Relationship between BGS observation conditions and measurement error in ring circumferential strain measurement based on BGS

(in English) The method has been proposed, for measuring the ring circumferential strain by fitting the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) model to the BGS observed in an optical fiber installed on the ring circumference. This model consists of parameters related to the BGS characteristics (the basic BGS shape given by the Lorentzian function and the strain dependence of Brillouin frequency shift), the BGS observation conditions (the BGS observation angle and section corresponding to the strain measurement position on the ring circumference, and the BGS observation frequency), the ring size, and the circumferential strain described with Fourier series. Through simulations, we investigated the relationship between BGS observation conditions and strain measurement errors about the circumferential strain produced on the ring to which a pair of loads is applied in the diameter direction. It was clarified that the strain measurement error decreases as an interval of the observation angle becomes narrower, it can be regarded to be constant when the observation section is wide while it increases with decrease in the section, and it is inversely proportional to the square root of the total number of the observation frequency.
