[Invited Lecture] Overview of DOCOMO's 5G Trials for 5G Realization

(in English) In order to prepare for the rapid growing of mobile data traffic that the spread of smart phones/tablets and various mobile applications/services cause and for the anticipated 1000-fold increase in 2020s’ data traffic volume compared to 2010, it is expected that the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system to dramatically improve the capability of the radio access network (RAN) will be introduced. In addition, research and development being are promoted for commercial service starting from 2020. In this talk, as DOCOMO’s activities for 5G realization, progress status of transmission experiments, that is, 5G experimental trials exploiting higher frequency bands such as SHF/EHF bands for verifying potential of 5G radio access technologies is introduced. Moreover, overview of 5G system trials to create new service and application in the 5G era in collaboration with other (vertical) industries is described briefly.
