Frequency Band Characteristics of Patch Type Meta-surface for Orthogonal Polarization Conversion

(in English) Meta-surface is a type of metamaterial, which is composed of a Frequency Selective Surface(FSS) and ground plane. It is artificial medium and realizes a property that not to in natural world. It is a simple configuration and can control the reflection phase and reflection amplitude. Therefore, it is expected to be applied as reflection plate, a reflection angle control plate and a polarization conversion plate. As a realization of polarization conversion using meta-surface, structure of meta-surface with polarization conversion function which converts from linear polarization to circular polarization and orthogonal polarization are proposed. Also, we design orthogonal polarization conversion meta-surface with broadband and low loss depending on band characteristics. This paper defines the mechanism of orthogonal polarization conversion meta-surface which converts from vertical polarization to horizontal polarization and polarization conversion loss as a performance evaluation, clarifies the factor of polarization conversion loss. Also, we clarify the band characteristics of polarization conversion meta-surface as seen from polarization conversion loss. As a result, 99.7% of relative frequency bandwidth of polarization conversion loss α < 1.0dB was obtained when the unit cell size is px=py=0.53λ0 , the patch size is lx=0.16λ0, ly=0.48λ0, the distance between the patch-ground plane is h=0.20λ0.
