A note on changes of source codes in bug-fixing commits

(in English) Nowadays in many software development projects, testing and fixing the
defects usually cost a major part of the whole projects. In addition to the economic view points, more reliable software is required in recent applications, such as self-driving cars. For these purposes, fault prediction and/or localization techniques using machine learning have been studied in decades. Most of the existing techniques use some software metrics for input of machine learning but not use software source codes directly. In this study, we are trying to utilize the semantic information of source codes in fault prediction/localization. In this article, we report an experiment in which source codes of open source software (OSS) are examined. The source codes are translated into an intermediate language, LLVM-IR, and the frequency of appearance of instruction codes are measured. We found that there are differences in the appearance frequency in the whole source codes and that in faults.
