Comparison of Al/Cu sheets welded by one-turn and four-turn flat coils for magnetic pulse welding

(in English) This paper describes a magnetic pulse welding of an Al sheet to a Cu sheet using a one-turn or four-turn flat coil. When a discharge current from a capacitor bank passes through each coil, a magnetic flux is suddenly generated around the coil. Eddy currents are induced in the overlapped Al sheet and Cu sheet placed on the coil. The Al/Cu sheets have a gap between them. Electromagnetic force acts on the Al sheet near the coil and lets the Al sheet collide and weld to the Cu sheet. The number of coil turns affects the welding. Experimental results similarly welded by each coil were compared.
