A numerical study on binaural signal reproducibility of pinna-centered Higher-Order Ambisonics reproduction system

(in English) Higher-Order Ambisonics (HOA), which is one of the theories of sound field reproduction, does not consider the presence of the head in the reproduction region, and, especially, larger errors occur in binaural signals at high frequencies in which a sweet spot is relatively small compared to a head size. One reason for such errors is likely that the ears are located outside the sweet spot at high frequencies when a reproduction point, usually a center of loudspeaker array, is located at a center of the head. In this report, we conduct a numerical study on reproducibility of binaural signals in the case the reproduction point is located at a listener’s ears (ear-canal entrance). The numerical results suggest that the reproducibility of binaural signals is improved when the reproduction point is located at the ear-canal entrances.
