Overview of standardization of Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) protocol suite and JAXA's DTN domestic production

(in English) Coping with the long-haul delay and frequent link disruption is considered as an important factor for enabling reliable internetworking in outer space. DTN has a capability for utilization under such characterized communication environments. In response to the historical activities, DTN Working Group (DTN WG) in the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) was formulated in 2008, where major space agencies join and standardize for the purpose of interoperability and cross-support. Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency (JAXA) has been participating and contributing to the standardization in CCSDS DTN WG since its inception, and has domestically produced a DTN protocol suite that complies with the CCSDS standardized protocols since 2014. In this paper, the authors would like to introduce the overview both of standardization activity in CCSDS and JAXA’s domestic production which CCSDS activity is referred to.
