[Poster Presentation] Basic SecCap, Practical Education for Information Security by University Cooperation

(in English) Introduction and activity report on “Basic SecCap.”
The Graduate School of Information Science of Tohoku University is working together with thirteen cooperative universities in development and operation of Basic SecCap course which is a part of Japanese MEXT’s enPiT2 (Education Network for Practical Information Technologies) project starting in 2016.
The Basic SecCap course provides lectures and practical training in field of information security for undergraduate students in fourteen universities in the coalition as well as additional participating universities. Lectures on specialized subject of general in information security are provided by five priority universities to discuss on different characteristic fundamental topics of information security, and simultaneously delivered to students in remote classrooms in other universities.
Characteristically featured practical training program consists of three stages, PBL, advanced PBL, and graduate school internship. A student in any cooperative or participating university can join any of these training classes by visiting the providing university. A PBL class is typically a two-days training program on a specified problem such as network security, web service security, incident response, cipher hardware, and privacy protection. Advanced PBL and graduate school internship are intended as optional advanced trainings for small classes, and the latter is provided by graduate schools as training programs for undergraduate students.
In the first operation year, 2017, the Basic SecCap course educates more than 200 students.
