To economically provide higher bit rate services to users, we proposed the Subcarrier Digital Modulation Passive Optical Network (SDM-PON). To make the sending optical power effective we proposed the clipped signal sending scheme for SDM-PON, along with three methods for getting original signals back from multiplexed clipped ones at the receive side. We showed SDM-PON using the clipped signal sending scheme with Method 3 can support up to 32 ONUs when each ONUi (i=1, 2, …, 32) constantly sends 1 Gbps using 16 QAM with the subcarrier frequency fi=2.8+(i-1) [GHz]. This evaluation uses up to +6 dBm of average optical launch power at ONUs that have higher subcarrier frequency and longer distance from OLT. This paper tries to decrease the average launch power by reducing subcarrier frequencies, and then minimizing the effect of the optical fiber dispersion. We thus show that SDM-PON using the clipped signal sending scheme along with Method 2 can support up to 32 ONUs even for up to + 2 dBm of average launch power. |
