In recent years, many plasmonic devices have been developed to realize large-capacity and high-speed information processing. In this paper, we have investigated the speed and energy required for one-bit data transmission in plasmonic and electric wirings. In electromagnetic field analyses, the propagation speed of plasmonic signals is about 100-times higher than that of electric ones. In such wirings, the transmission loss of plasmonic signals is lower than that of electric ones if the propagation distance is set at the range within a few hundred micrometers. This distance is sufficient to constitute plasmonic circuits. |
