Biodegradable polymer submicron fibers exhibiting piezoelectric-like behavior and waveguiding property

(in English) Poly(lactic acid) have been attracting attentions because of its unique biodegradability and regenerability. In this study, we have fabricated electrospun submicron fibers of amorphous poly(lactic acid) and demonstrated their piezoelectric-like behavior and waveguiding property. A mat of the poly(lactic acid) fibers showed a high apparent piezoelectric constant (29,000×10−12 m/V), and the aligned poly(lactic acid) fibers showed a propagation loss ranging 0.63–3.6 dB/mm at 0.63-μm wavelength.
