A Proposal of Contrast Enhancement Method by Using Multi-Dimensional Histogram Transfer

(in English) As one of the most popular contrast enhancement methods, there is a histogram equalization (HE). In the HE, an input image is transformed so that a histogram of the pixel value becomes a uniform distribution. However, there is a case where local contrast is lost because the HE does not consider the relationship among the neighboring pixels. In this report, a joint histogram consisting of pixel of interest and its neighboring pixels is used, and then the joint histogram is transformed to an ideal joint histogram. In the proposed method, the whole contrast enhancement and local contrast enhancement are simultaneously realized. In the experiment, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by using some evaluation metrics.
