To estimate interactions between carbon supports and Pt, which affects the catalytic activity of carbon-supported Pt nanoparticles for cathode catalysts of polymer electrolyte fuel cells(PEFCs), adsorption behaviors of Pt on various carbon supports (graphene, multilayer graphene and amorphous carbon) have been examined using a first-principles calculation, focusing on the preferential adsorption sites and effect of vacancy. The calculations revealed that the adsorption energy and the effect of vacancy show similar tendency irrespective of the kind of the carbon supports. This result indicates that the covalent-like interaction between Pt and supporting carbon atoms affects the adsorption behaviors of Pt. |
