For low cost determination of noise sources to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) , we have proposed a method named noise source amplitude modulation and correlation analysis (NSM-CS) to identify devices dominantly contributing to EMI. In this study, we applied the NSM-CS method to the PCB with multiple semiconductor devices and identified devices dominantly contributing to EMI from radiation measurement. Amplitude modulation of noise sources was implemented using the FPGA mounted on the PCB. Clock signal of 50 MHz was modulated by PRBSs with low cross-correlations less than 0.2. According to measured contribution to radiation, high priority noise sources that should be counteracted to reduce EMI to meet the regulation were determined. Moreover we took countermeasures to the high priority devices and found that radiation was reduced more than when countermeasures were put to low priority devices. |
