[Poster Presentation] Evaluation of trabecular anisotropic structure in cancellous bone by ultrasonic scatter

(in English) One method of structural evaluation of cancellous bone is ultrasonic scattering. Ultrasound irradiated on cancellous bone are scattered by complex trabecular structure of cancellous bone, and most of scattered waves are measured in the incident sound wave direction (forward scattering) and the opposite direction (backward scattering). We can estimate the trabecular structure (trabecular anisotropic structure) and bone volume ratio (bone mineral density) of cancellous bone from the characteristics of scattered waves. In this study, forward scattering propagating in cancellous bone and back scattering were experimentally examined. As a result, AIB of forward scattering and back scatter slightly showed complementary relationship, IRC of back scatter showed anisotropic characteristics of cancellous bone. However, in order to evaluate the anisotropy of cancellous bone with forward scattering and back scattering, it is necessary to thoroughly examine the incident direction of sound waves and attenuation of scattering.
