[Poster Presentation] Evaluation study on inverse piezoelectric effect of cortical bone in the MHz range

(in English) The piezoelectricity is one expected mechanism to promote the healing of bone fracture by ultrasonic irradiation in the MHz range. We have then fabricated ultrasound transducers using bone as piezoelectric devices and evaluated the piezoelectric effect of bone. In addition, we reported that the induced electrical potentials in bone changed due to the ultrasound propagation directions. In this report, we have extracted bone samples of five different directions in the cortical bone. Then, we have fabricated ultrasound transducers using these bones and evaluated the receiving sensitivity and the transmitting sensitivity. As a result, we could observe the inverse piezoelectric effect of the bone in the MHz range. We confirmed that resonance frequency and transmitting / receiving sensitivity of bone transducers changed according to the cutting direction.
