[Poster Presentation] Measurement of bone wave velocity in Spontaneously Diabetic Torii rats

(in English) In case of diabetes, bone becomes fragile and the risk of fracture increases in spite of the appropriate bone density. One reason seems to be the abnormal intermolecular crosslinking of collagen by diabetes. In this study, we investigated the influence of diabetes on the elasticity of bone by comparing bone wave velocity in SDT (Spontaneously Diabetic Torii) rats and health model SD (Sprague Dawley) rats. By measuring the longitudinal wave velocity in tibia bone using a micro-Brillouin scattering method, the average wave velocity of SDT rats was about 1.3% lower than that of the average wave velocity of SD rats.
