In the design of bandstop filter (BSF), a circuit synthesis theory of generalized Chebyshev function offers an equiripple response in stopband in addition to arbitrary reflection-zero (RZ) frequencies in passband. In order to realize such a bandstop response with a physical structure, using a Cul-de-Sac coupling makes the filter size more compact than using a conventional cascade connection. Such a coupling topology has been realized with a waveguide filter and a suspended-stripline filter with a complicated resonator arrangement. No simple single-layer microstrip BSF structure for Cul-de-Sac coupling configuration has been presented yet. This paper proposes a new fully-canonical Cul-de-Sac coupling microstrip BSF. In order to design this filter, a coupling matrix is obtained by a circuit synthesis method, and the structure is efficiently designed with the help of a coupling-matrix extraction method. As an example, we design a third-order Cul-de-Sac coupling BSF with 2-GHz center frequency, 2% fractional bandwidth in stopband, and three RZs located at near the stopband, resulting in very high skirt selectivity. Finally, the validity of the proposed structure is verified by the comparison between the simulated and measured results. |
