A Simplified Initial Acquisition Scheme for WHCDM Based on Distribution Asymmetry of Demultiplexed Signal Energy

(in English) In helicopter satellite communications, the periodic channel blockage due to rotor blades is the most important problem to be solved.Code division multiplexing (CDM) employing Walsh-Hadamard code (WHCDM) is suitable for overcoming the periodic blockage.For the symbol synchronization in WHCDM systems, an initial acquisition scheme using the energy variance of the demultiplexed signal was proposed.However, the signal processing of this conventional scheme is rather complex.In this report, we propose an initial acquisition scheme in order to simplify the signal processing.The proposed scheme acquires the symbol timing using the asymmetry in the energy distribution of the demultiplexed signal.It requires significantly fewer multiplications than the conventional scheme.Results of computer simulation show that the acquisition performance of the proposed scheme is the same or slightly better than that of the conventional one.
It is therefore concluded that the proposed scheme drastically reduces the complexity without performance degradation.
