Preparation and Orientation Control of Polyimide Thin Films by Vapor Deposition Polymerization

(in English) Polyimide thin films were prepared by co-evaporation of pyromellitic dianhydride and 4,4' diaminoazobenzene. The polyimide prepared by vapor deposition polymerization was difficult to control its molecular orientation by photo- isomerization. On the other hand, the film deposited on a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) having low surface energy tended to orient its molecular chain in a direction normal to the substrate surface, while the molecular chain tended to orient parallel to the plane of substrate when deposited on a SAM having high surface energy.
