A Study on Adaptively Scaled Belief in Gaussian BP Detection for Higher-Order Higher-Dimensional MIMO Systems

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper proposes an adaptively scaled belief (ASB) in Gaussian belief propagation (GaBP), especially for large multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) detection with higher-order modulation scheme. To avoid impairments of the inter-bit correlation in GaBP with higher-order modulation, the symbol-wise detection by propagating the extrinsic belief vector is effective. In this case, however, we cannot utlize the channel decoder in each iteration due to the absence of bit-wise LLR, resulting in self-iterative detection (SID). The most vital issue with regard to improving the convergence property of SID is how to deal with approximation errors when the large system limit is not satisfied. As the simplest way to suppress the harmful impacts of approximation errors, a novel adaptive belief scaling is proposed while stabilizing dynamics of random MIMO channels. In addition, we propose a novel method to approximately calculate a conditional symbol expectation with low computational complexity on the promise of the use of ASB. Finally, the validity of ASB for symbol-wise iterative detection is confirmed regarding supression of the bit error rate (BER) floor.
