The 5th generation (5G) mobile communication systems are expected to be applied in new fields like security, telemedicine, and construction. One of important roles for uplink transmission in these fields is to transmit on-site video with required high quality and without interruption. However, under a situation where received signal levels are very low, degradation of channel estimation accuracy results in limiting throughput. Base stations for 5G massive MIMO can improve the accuracy by only adopting beams whose beam-space channel gains are high. This report focuses on uplink multi-user MIMO transmission in low SHF band, and shows uplink throughput performances applying beam space channel estimation. To mitigate noise effect, we study threshold-based decision after averaging channel gains over multiple subcarriers. Through computer simulations where received signal powers are very low, we confirm that receivers applying beam space channel estimation can achieve 2.5 times throughput of those without beam space channel estimation. In addition, we show that introduction of channel gain averaging over multiple subcarriers results in 2.8 times throughput. |
