Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Small DC motors are used for driving fuel pumps used in automobiles due to their superior cost advantages. As its structure, they are installed inside the fueltank, which is characterized by commutation carried out in the fuel. We have investigated the wear characteristics of flat type carbon commutator and carbon brush in fuels such as ethanol and butanol which attract attention as fuel substituting for fossil fuel so far. From previous experimental results, it was found that the sliding wear of the surface not directly affected by the arc on the commutator surface increases when arc occurs. So, it is an interesting issue how the arc greatly affects the sliding wear. Therefore, it is necessary to separate the wea/erosion into arc erosion and the mechanical sliding wear, respectively. In this report, basic data for the issue are obtained.
