Improvement of Real-time Dehazing Processing Suitable for Embedded Systems

(in English) Processing for removing haze such as fog and mist superimposed on digital images is called dehazing. When dehazing systems are applied to actual applications such as video surveillance and in-vehicle cameras, it is necessary to implement a high-performance dehazing algorithm which can handle video streams at a processing speed of 30 [fps] or more on a low-cost portable embedded device. In this study, we propose a fast and high-performance dehazing algorithm suitable for embedded implementation. Furthermore, by optimizing its hardware implementation on an embedded target board with GPU, we achieve the above-mentioned requirement for processing speed. As a result of verification, a practical processing speed of more than 40 [fps] was accomplished and high-quality dehazing results were obtained compared with typical dehazing methods.
