Effect of floating point precision on dynamics of membrane potential in neuronal simulation

(in English) In recent years, a large-scale simulation and a real-time simulation of the neural system has been extensively attempted. For a large-scale simulation and a real-time simulation, not only a supercomputer but also a desktop workstation are used. In a simulation using a desktop workstation, acceleration of simulation is often achieved by a graphics boards or an accelerator board with GPUs. Computational time using a graphics boards with the single precision floating point is shorter than that with the double precision floating point. Furthermore, using single precision floating point can reduce data transfer time. In this study, we investigate the effect of single precision and double precision floating points on the dynamics of the neuronal activity in the computer simulation.
