Personal Authentication by Pen-Holding Style using Image Taken from Bottom

(in English) In this paper, a novel personal authentication method is proposed by using images of pen-holding style taken from the bottom. By integrating the imaging device for the pen-holding style with the device for writing signatures, the secure personal authentication can be realized using both handwriting and pen-holding style authentication. In order to realize such authentication, a novel database for pen-holding style images taken from the bottom was constructed for 75 people. Furthermore, an algorithm for the verification was developed using both the pen holding-style region of the image and the contacted region on the device, where each image was verified using the deformable matching based on the deformable part model for object detection. In the experiments, the equal error rate was 5.39% using the proposed method for the database of 30 people.
