In this paper, we propose fast singular value decomposition (SVD) based on the Chebyshev polynomial approximation (CPA). The SVD takes enormous computation time recently since the size of a given matrix becomes large. To solve the problem, SVD based on the polar decomposition (SVDPD) has been proposed. In the SVDPD, the matrix decomposition can be achieved by decomposing each independent block diagonal matrix in the given matrix. Therefore, the SVDPD can easily be accelerated by using the parallel computation technique. However, the polar decomposition still takes computation time because it exploits the QR decomposition of a large matrix. In this paper, the CPA is applied to the polar decomposition to reduce its computation cost. Thanks to the CPA, the polar decomposition can be conducted without using the QR decomposition. The experiments show that our CPA-based SVD can decompose a matrix faster than the previous ones, and the proposed method does not affect the performance of an application. |
