[Invited Talk] Study on production and growth of novelties -- based on the Yule-Simon process --
Yasuhiro Hashimoto (Univ. of Tokyo) CCS2017-41
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Novelties such as new words, new ideas, new research articles, and new patents, which have not existed in human societies before, are continuously created and obtain a different degree of popularity. Such social phenomena can be interpreted as the dynamics of novelty creation and its adoption and known to be roughly described by the simple stochastic process, the Yule-Simon process. In the talk, we will introduce how the social annotation in the real web systems follows the Yule-Simon process and diverge from it, and discuss what to consider further in order to capture such a social evolutionary process.
Keyword (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Social annotation / Novelty / Yule-Simon process / Preferential attachment / Anomaly / Social evolution / Adjacent possible /
