Evaluation of Mid Infrared Superconducting Hot Electron Bolometer Mixer

(in English) We have been studied a mid-infrared superconducting hot electron bolometer mixer (MIR-HEBM) using nano-antennas for global environment measurement, information communication, security application etc. in the mid-infrared region. By evaluating the complex surface impedance of the gold thin film in the MIR region at cryogenic temperature (10 K) and introducing it to the conventional electromagnetic wave simulator, we have shown that it is possible to design the antennas and distributed circuits in the region. MIR-HEBMs with a mid-infrared twin-slot antenna were designed and fabricated and we evaluated the mixer characteristics. When HEBM is irradiated with appropriate MIR light and constant current was biased near the suppressed critical current, accidental voltage pulses from HEBM due to fluctuation of MIR irradiation power were observed. We considered that the waveform depends on the HEBM relaxation time and the IF bandwidth of the HEBM was estimated to be about 0.8 GHz. For evaluating the mixer noise temperature, an evaluation setup that does not use a beam splitter was constructed. The slightly change in the IF output due to the difference in signal source temperature was observed ant the mixer noise temperature at 61 THz was estimated about 17,000 K (DSB).
