In recent years, smart homes for senior care have attracted great attention in Japan. But a smart home has a privacy issue. A smart home with a video camera or a microphone potentially can obtain user sensitive information and therefore may violate the resident's privacy. The purpose of this research is to investigate some technology for constructing smart homes that preserve the resident's privacy. In this paper, we use a sensor-array consisting of 15 infrared sensors to recognize the user locations and activities. The model used is a multi-layer perceptron. Experimental results show that the recognition rate is close to 100% if the subject stays in the same place and repeats the same activity for more than 2 or 3 seconds. |
