Recently, advanced transport systems and future mobility such as personal mobility, MaaS (Mobility as a Service) and autonomous driving have been actively discussed. Concerning mobility in indoor environments, lots of technologies for human sensing and indoor positioning have been studied, and various kinds of location-based services including indoor navigation have been developed. Based on these backgrounds, I will introduce our studies on mobile sensing in outdoor/indoor environments, and describe the problems and perspectives on ambient sensing in advanced mobility society.
There are various kinds of mobility such as vehicle, bicycles and pedestrians in real-worlds (outdoor/indoor environment). Environmental sensing for grasping traffic situations and road surface conditions are essential for making these mobility's navigation comfortable and safety. Towards realizing safety regional transport systems, we have developed several mobile sensing techniques with in-vehicle smartphones. As such mobile sensing techniques, a method for detection of lane change and a method for estimation of road surface condition will be introduced. Sensing technologies for grasping dynamics of mobility such as human flow and crowded level are needed in indoor environments as well as outdoor environments. As studies on such mobility sensing in indoor environments, a Wi-Fi based method for human counting and a method of pedestrian sensing for estimating crowded level, that we have developed, will been explained. |
