Measurements of UWB Band-9 Radio Propagation within Various Closed/Semi-Closed Spaces

(in English) The Japanese Government started studying deregulation of outdoor use of ultra wideband (UWB) devices, which has been conditionally authorized in many other countries, particularly within Band 9 (center frequency = 7.9872 GHz, bandwidth = 499.2 MHz) defined in an IEEE 802.15.4a standard. While several studies of outdoor UWB radio propagation have been reported, none has been found specializing in Band 9. Our laboratory has so far been conducting UWB (including Band 9) propagation measurement campaigns in various closed and semi-closed environments, which are much harsher than the outdoors in terms of multipath propagation. In this report, the radio propagation properties (UWB path gains and delay spreads) are compared between Band 9 and the whole UWB high band (7.25 to 10.25 GHz).
