Electromagnetic simulation is difficult because there are large freedom in modeling of excitation and boundaries. Absorbing boundary conditions are used for open space in the finite element method and FDTD method. Tips for modeling open space are reported in the paper. A half-wavelength dipole antenna and scattering of a plane wave by a PEC sphere are discussed for example. The distance between an object (scatterer) and absorbing boundary should larger than 1/2 wavelength to reduce the influence of scatterd field from the absorbing boundary. |
