New antenna-coupled electrode electro-optic modulators operating in the 28 GHz band are analyzed for IoT system applications. High-efficiency direct signal conversion from wireless microwave to lightwave signals without external power supply is expected by use of newly-designed antenna-coupled electrodes with the effective coupling conditions. Especially, we found that the critical coupling between antennas and a resonant electrode with matched Q-factors is rather effective to have an improved conversion efficiency and relatively wide bandwidth. The electromagnetic-field analysis results by use of 3-D field analysis software are presented.
