Nowadays, the wireless local-area network (WLAN) has become common for the Internet access due to a low-cost solution using wireless communications between access points (APs) and hosts including smart phones, tablets, and laptop PCs. Previously, we proposed the elastic WLAN system that can optimize the network configuration of active APs and host associations depending on traffic demands from users, and implemented the testbed system using Raspberry Pi for the AP. In this elastic WLAN system, to enhance the security, any system software of the AP must be updated for the newest version, and any host user must be authenticated before joining the system. In this study, we first implement the system software update function. It periodically checks the newest version of each system software at the corresponding Web site. If the new version is released,
it is automatically downloaded to the repository server and is installed to each AP via this server. Next, we implement the user authentication function using the RADIUS server. It authenticates any joining host user
by sending the authentication messages via an AP. We confirm the correctness of the implemented functions through experiments using the testbed. |
