Bistability of IEEE 802.11 DCF in Saturated/Non-saturated Boundary Region

(in English) There exist two stable states of a IEEE-802.11-DCF-based wireless LAN (WLAN) in a region where the amount of frames transmitted from the terminals is almost equal to the processing capacity of the WLAN. In
this work, we focused on this bistable phenomenon and make the following observations; the two stable states respectively correspond to the saturated and the unsaturated states, transitions between the bistable states can occur in some cases, and that the bistable phenomenon occurs also in inhomogeneous cases where the frame generation rate differs for each terminal. Furthermore, we show that the bistable phenomenon can be explained also in the analytical model (M/PH/1), in which the frame transmission time is represented by the phase distribution.
