A 26GHz-band Image Enhancement Type 1-Bit DAC for Direct Digital RF Modulator

(in English) We have proposed 1-bit bandpass ΔΣ modulator using high order image component as a configuration of direct digital RF modulator which can generate the RF signal beyond the Nyquist frequency directly from the digital signal. In the case that the transmission line, such as optical fiber, is applied as a feed line to transmit the 1-bit stream from the DSP to the 1-bit DAC, the high order image components are attenuated significantly because of the lowpass characteristics of the transmission line. In this paper, we proposed an image enhancement type 1-bit DAC which can generate the high order image component from the lowpass filtered DSP output signal. The proposed image enhancement type 1-bit DAC is fabricated in 65nm CMOS process. In the case of 1.2 Vp-p / 8 Gbps Manchester coding 1-bit bandpass ΔΣ modulated stream which can generate 5Mbps-QPSK signal in the 1st Nyquist zone (2GHz), the proposed DAC achieves -36.4dBm of the RF output power , 28.3 dB of SNR, and 6.5% of EVM in the 7th Nyquist zone (26GHz) under the condition of the lowpass filtered (fc=8 GHz) 1-bit stream.
