Hilbert Transformation for Wireless Communications
Yoshio Karasawa AP2018-92
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Although Hilbert transformation appears in various fields of signal generation and signal processing, such as communication, sound, radar, control, etc., due to the wide field of use, its understanding may become a detour if we start learning from mismatched technical field. Therefore, focusing the Hilbert transformation with applications to radio engineering, we summarize it as a tutorial for young engineers. Field in antenna and propagation deals with physical signal of real number representation, but from circuit analysis convenience, complex number in terms of analytic signal is usually used. It is the Hilbert transformation that bridges the real world and the complex world. When a radio wave (real number signal of finite bandwidth) radiated from the antenna hits an object of a reflection coefficient determined by a complex number, is the expression of the received signal real number or complex number? From the viewpoint of radio wave propagation, we would like to cut into such a question.
