Mobile data traffic is rapidly increasing along with the popularization of smartphone. In order to accommodate the mobile data traffic, which is anticipated to reach 30 ExaBytes per month in 2020, it is necessary to significantly increase system capacity compared with 4G in fifth generation mobile communication system (5G). Cell densification is promising to increase system capacity. However, because there is a high probability that multiple transmission points (TP) become line of sight (LOS) environment for a user equipment (UE) in ultra high dense cell environment, severe interference from the surrounding TPs slows system capacity improvement. In order to solve this problem, we have been studying ultra high-density distributed antenna system which utilizes coordinated radio resource control among large number of TPs. So far, via simulations and offline analysis using channel measurements, we have shown that ultra high-density distributed antenna system can significantly increase throughput compared with 4G inter-TP coordination technology. In addition, we have shown that the distributed antenna can achieve higher throughput performance compared with localized antenna system because spatial correlation becomes lower and the receiving power at UE side becomes higher due to distributed TPs. In this talk, we introduce our activities of field experiments using real-time transmission system. |
