Micro-cell base stations using millimeter-wave band will be deployed in 5G systems. It may difficult to cover wide area by its propagation characteristics, and the number of micro-cell base stations deployed by cellular operators can be limited by their economic and strategic decisions. We propose a concept of "micro-cell operator" which will deploy micro-cell base stations at their own properties, e.g. buildings, factories, campuses of university. The base stations behave as access points of local area network for its workers and students, and also behaves as cellular operators' base stations for other users. Authors propose a micro-cell operator concept to accelerate the deployment of 5G gNodeBs. The concept enables owners of private areas to deploy private gNodeBs by themselves.
In this paper, we evaluate the merit of introducing micro-cell operator on unbalanced deployment scenario by comparison of throughput per UE between existence of all operators (A, B and C) and micro-cell operator X (instead of operator B). From result of the comparison, 75% of throughput can be provided by micro-cell operator’s gNodeBs even there are no operator B’s gNodeBs. |
